Currently MJR Waterford has those luxury recliner chairs in their Panoramic ScreenX theaters, which we experienced during its Red Carpet ribbon cutting screening of ‎Twisters . MJR Southgate has an IMAX screen with luxury recliner and VIP seating, but MJR Troy promises to be bigger!

Their intimate VIP boxes are very nice, with seating for 2, side tables and hooks for your belongings as well as under table storage for purses, bags, and blankets which almost seem to be required with the frigid temperatures theaters are kept at these days. The raised privacy panels are nice too.

Raposa and I are looking forward to having these at our home theater, MJR Troy. And yes, I will fight you for those VIP seats.

MJR THEATRES TO OPEN NEW IMAX® AUDITORIUM FEATURING LUXURY RECLINERS AT MJR TROY

Bloomfield Hills, MI, June 3rd, 2025 - MJR Theatres is excited to announce that the largest Laser IMAX auditorium in Metro-Detroit, and one of the only to feature luxury reclining chairs, will be opening at the MJR Troy Cinema this summer.

The completely redesigned auditorium will feature IMAX's most advanced theatrical experience to date, including a patented 4K Laser projector designed to deliver crystal clear lifelike images, increased resolution, deeper contrasts and the widest range of colors available. What's more, IMAX's precision sound technology will deliver striking clarity and depth, alongside perfectly tuned sound and evenly distributed audio for a moviegoing experience unlike anything else.

The MJR Troy IMAX will also feature fully powered, zero-gravity luxury recliners, joining the MJR Southgate IMAX as only the second in Metro-Detroit to offer this amenity. Additionally, select rows will also offer MJR's VIP Seats, an exclusive seating concept featuring premium heated reclining chairs, two convenient side tables, storage compartments for personal belongings, coat hooks and a surrounding privacy enclosure designed to provide additional personal space and comfort.

"We're thrilled to bring this next-level IMAX experience to our guests at MJR Troy," said Joel Kincaid, VP of Operations for MJR Theatres. "Combining the cutting-edge visuals and sound of IMAX'S 4K Laser technology with our signature zero-gravity recliners, VIP Privacy Pods and LUX Loungers, this will undoubtably be the golden standard for moviegoing in Metro-Detroit."

"We were so excited in 2014 when MJR opened their theatre in the City of Troy," said Troy Mayor Ethan Baker. "MJR has brought to countless audiences, young and old, hours and hours of entertainment to our community. Now we are so excited that their existing EPIC auditorium will be transformed into the largest Laser IMAX screen in Michigan and existing seating will be replaced with recliners! Troy's MJR Theatre will become an outstanding entertainment destination in Oakland County. Thank you MJR!"
